EcoArts Fest: Eco-Friendly Bug Puppets

Insects are our friends. Almost all insects found in our gardens are useful. Only 1% of all insects are harmful. Work with artist Gustavo Boada and discover how many six-legged friends play an important role in our gardens from the green lacewing to the Rusty patch bee. Learn how to create an easy eco-friendly “bug” rod puppet using creative materials destined for the landfill.

Originally, a 1-day event that brought local schools, families, artists and performers to the MN Valley National Wildlife Refuge to celebrate our close connection to nature through the arts, the EcoArts Fest has transformed into a 3-part festival this year and will be held May 17 - 23, 2021. EcoArts Fest: Lovely Luminaries

EcoArts Fest: Nature Beaded

Needle, thread, fabric and beads come together in this textile class geared for families with children 8 years and older. Work with artist Julie Boada to learn the art of beading. Then create a beaded pouch inspired by your favorite animal or plant found in nature. Be set to spend some extra time out of class to finish your project.

EcoArts Fest: A Lala Palooza of Pollinators-Headpieces

Celebrate our very busy and important pollinators with artist Jeanette Dickinson! Jeanette introduces you to some key pollinators. She discusses why they are important and teaches you how to draw each pollinator.  Finally, she helps you create a festive pollinator headpiece using drawings and pizzazy reuse materials-perfect to wear at our May 22 EcoArts Fest!
