Art and Nature: From Cape Dorset to Alaska—Printmaking
with Lisa Himmelstrup

Explore the ecology, culture and art of the Inuit and other Indigineous people viewing artifacts, stories, experiences shared by naturalist Judy Geck. Then work in three different art forms working with professional artists to create art inspired by the Inuit people who have inhabited these regions for thousands of years.
Judy Geck shares artifacts and experiences gathered during her visits to Cape Dorset. She discusses the influence of James Houston on the Inuit community and his efforts to help the Inuit people take up printmaking to earn a living. Artist Lisa Himmelstrup follows-up and shares some of the stunning prints created by Inuit artists. Then you work with Himmelstrup to learn printing techniques and create your own prints inspired by the artists of Cape Dorset and other Inuit artists. All printmaking materials provided.
