Wick & Word: A Poetry + Candle-Making Experience
Come light up your language! In this feel-good fusion of poetry and candle-making, participants will write free-verse self-affirming poems that speak
to their truth, purpose, and personal glow. Then, you’ll hand-pour your own custom candle, infused with intention, scent, and style. Leave with a flamethat holds your words, and a poem that smells like you on your best day! No experience needed, just bring your brilliance and creativity.

Fall Camp: Magical Minnesota
with Gustavo Boada & Laurie Witzkowski

Ages: 6 - 12
Fall in Minnesota is a delicious and mysterious time of year. Pumpkins ripen on thevine, ready to become jack o’lanterns. Trick-or-treaters prepare their costumes.The nights seem to team with spirits, and we feel our ancestors at hand. In this enchanting two-day camp, celebrate the bounty and magic of a midwestern fall by working with artists Gustavo Boada and Laurie Witzkowski. You will create a bewitching garden diorama using natural materials andMinnesotan folk arts. Along the way, you will learn about the Indigenous and European roots of these traditions.
9-10:30 am: Work with Gustavo Boada to create fairies, elves, and other magical creatures, using cardboard, papier-mâché and other organic fibers.
10:45 am-12:15 pm: Fashion a colorful and dazzling autumn garden diorama for your creatures with Laurie Witzkowski, using corn husk figures, seed art, and plants.

Work with artist Gustavo Boada to learn the technique of dry needle felting as you create your favorite symbol of Fall-an owl, bat, pumpkin, cat, moon fairy and more! Use felting tools and colorful roving to create your own wooly wonder.

Curated by Patrick Cabello Hansel, author of The Devouring Land, Quitting Time, and Breathing in Minneapolis. Patrick has twice been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and was part of the Mentor Series for the Loft Literary Center.

Nominated three times for the Pushcart Prize, he has won awards from the Loft Literary Center and MN State Arts Board. His novellas Searching and Returning were serialized in 33 issues of The Alley News.
