Our popular poetry series continues! Come celebrate autumn at our cozy ArtScraps store with an evening of art, poetry, and light refreshments. Curated by Patrick Cabello Hansel, author of The Devouring Land, Quitting Time, and Breathing in Minneapolis. Patrick has twice been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and was part of the Mentor Series for the Loft Literary Center.

He has published in over 85 journals, including Crannog, Ilanot Review, Hawai’i Pacific Review, and RiverSedge. Nominated three times for the Pushcart Prize, he has won awards from the Loft Literary Center and MN State Arts Board. His novellas Searching and Returning were serialized in 33 issues of The Alley News. Explore essential watercolor skills of wet and dry brushwork, masking and using a resist along with the application of simple drawing tricks to make your paintings look amazing. Practice your understanding of color mixing and play with ways to use water to intensify or mute your colors.

Hand-made greeting cards are often the most cherished. Explore your creative muse as you work with visual artist and poet Marie Olofsdotter to create a variety of greeting cards. Inspired by the season and nature, cards incorporate folding techniques, the pop-up process and collaging techniques. Then add another element that makes your card uniquely yours- your voice captured in lines of poetry generated with Marie. All materials provided.

The holidays are a magical season.  What better time to work together as a family with artist Gustavo Boada to create one of the most magical places there is-Hogwarts Castle, the site of so many of Harry Potter’s adventures. Using tubes, cones, cups, mylar, glue and reciting a single spell, “Decorateum Glueioso” you create a magnificent castle to place in your bedroom or home for the holidays!

Winter is an ideal time to get cozy on the couch and create! If you have always wanted to learn to knit, but felt intimidated, now is your chance. Work with artist Laurie Witzkowski to learn some knitting basics such as casting on, knitting, purling, and casting off. You will create a mini scarf sampler, so you have all the skills to create a large one on your own.
