**Passport to Brazil through the Arts Summer Camps

Camp Create

$375
Calendar Jun 25, 2024 at 9 am, runs for 1 week

ArtStart’s Camp CREATE is geared for youth ages 13 years+ who want to explore their artist within as they work side-by-side with professional artists to create art inspired by a specific culture.

Camp Create is perfect for youth who want to explore their imagination through a variety of art media, learn about the arts of a culture, and gain new skills in making art. Designed to inspire creativity and gain insights about a specific culture, these classes encourage participants to think outside the box, see people and things with new eyes, and gain new art skills and techniques using different art media. The theme of Camp Create 2024 is Passport to Brazil: At One with Nature. Camp Create includes 4 different arts experiences:

DRAWING AND PAINTING: Postcards from Brazil
From vibrant rainforest landscapes to coastal seascapes to street scenes, life in Brazil is colorful and filled with a kind of indescribable energy. Work with artist Sophia Crosby to look at modern Brazilian art work. Then learn to create gorgeous artworks that capture the essence of Brazil.

MASK MAKING: Spirits of the Rainforest
The art of mask making, rooted in the traditions of indigenous people who live in the Amazon rainforest region, is fast becoming a lost art. Work with artist Gustavo Boada to create your own mask inspired by those of indigenous people who still maintain a deep connection to nature.

TEXTILES: Rainforest Inspirations
Taking inspiration from the colorful flowers and insects of the Amazon rainforest, work with artist Julie Boada to learn two textile techniques: weaving using a backstrap loom, and stenciling with fabric paint. Then create beautiful pieces to decorate your room or give as a gift.

PUPPETRY: Journey South
Learn about the Fall journey south of Minnesota songbirds and the environmental challenges they face as they winter in the tropical rainforests. Join artist Laurie Witzkowski and create your lovely bird puppets using a variety of art media.

For ages 13+.

Payment plan available: $200 deposit plus 2 payments of $87.50, paid weekly.
