Julie Boada, Anishinabe artist and Fond Du Lac member, introduces the art of beading. Work with Julie to create a pair of gorgeous beaded earrings to wear or give as a gift to someone special in your life.

with Linda Jensen
Create a unique jewelry box for yourself or as a Valentine’s Day present for someone you love. Using a cigar box, fabric, yarn, ribbons, lace, fancy papers, cabochons and more, fashion a bespoke vessel for sparkles and treasures. Bring photos from home if you wish to incorporate them; otherwise, all materials will be provided. Taught by artist Linda Jensen.

Bring those pieces and join artist Sara Kerr to learn how to stylishly mend your clothing with visible mending, appliqué patching, and Sashiko stitching. You can also learn how to shorten jeans with the original hem. You’ll keep more clothing from being thrown away OR out of the dump! No previous sewing experience necessary.

Nominated three times for the Pushcart Prize, he has won awards from the Loft Literary Center and MN State Arts Board. His novellas Searching and Returning were serialized in 33 issues of The Alley News. Unleash your inner artist and explore Rome at our magical art camp during spring break! Dive into the wonders of Rome through three creative workshops brimming with fun and learning:
Architecture: Create an Elegant Roman Bath House: 9-10:00am
Ancient Rome was famous in its time for vast and elaborate public bath houses. Built using millions of terracotta bricks, these buildings featured fine mosaic floors, decorative statues, and marble walls. Join artist Laurie Witzkowski to make a model of your own Roman bath house, and create a calming bath infusion from herbs.
Puppetry: Toy Theater & Tall Tales: 10:05-11:05am
Gods and goddesses, monsters and minotaurs! Learn some of the most famous stories of Roman mythology from Julie Boada. Then create a toy theater stage and puppets to retell your favorite Roman tall tale, and perform it for your friends and family!
Masks: Carnival Follies: 11:10-12:15pm
Since the middle ages, the celebration of Carnival in February has been a chance to don a disguise and dance in the streets. Roman masks are famous for their fanciful designs and sparkle. Artist Gustavo Boada will share some of the traditions and designs of this most colorful holiday of the Roman calendar. Then create your own gorgeous mask for future celebrations.

Wooly Wabbits! Felting
with Gustavo Boada
Work with artist Gustavo Boada to learn the technique of dry needle felting as you create your favorite symbol of spring: a baby chick, bunny rabbit, robin, or easter egg! Use felting tools and colorful roving to create your own wooly wonder. All materials provided.

Be in the Minneapolis May Day Parade with the ArtCars and ArtBikes! Work with artists Tara Fahey and Kallie Melvin to create a fanciful structure from cardboard, from batmobiles to spaceships. Some artful reuse materials will be available to decorate, and you will get a 10% discount code to purchase any additional materials you want at the nearby ArtScraps store. Then join the parade on Sunday, May 4th for a celebration of spring and community.
